Title: Special Effect Artist  
Reporting to: Art Technical Director
 
Job Summary:
Duties:
  • Create all aspects of 2D and 3D game effects. This includes particle systems, animating textures, polygonal effects meshes, and assets that may be used procedurally by programmers
  • May contribute to design and/or conceptualization efforts as needed
  • Help create foundational particle systems for game engine using proprietary tools
  • Create polygonal and texture effects assets to be used by programmers
  • Work closely with programmers to ensure visual quality of procedural effects
  • Using 3D software, simulate and render animations of in-game effects as proof-of-concept for current and future hardware
  • Create realistic effects such as fire, smoke, and explosions using limited game resources
  • Meet project deadlines / milestones as set by project leads
  • Actively participate in team / department meetings

Profile  Essential
 
Experience and Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years experience as a 3D artist real time (Special Effect Artist, Level Artist, Model Artist, Texturer, Assistant Art Technical Director). 
Technical Skills
  • Ability to model and texture in 3D
  • Experience with particle effects
  • Strong technical aptitude related to 3D modeling tools and game engine technologies
  • Fluent knowledge of Maya and Photoshop
  • Ability to be receptive to art direction and to perform well within a collaborative team environment
Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong sense of responsibility
